Broadband UVB phototherapy has been used for psoriasis treatment for more than seventy years.  In the 1980s Philips developed 

narrowband TL01 lamps. These lamps select only the portion of natural sunlight which provides the best therapeutic response.  

Sunburn response is minimised by the removal of non-therapeutic wavelengths.

Narrowband UVB phototherapy has a greater beneficial effect than conventional broadband-UVB, achieving faster and more 

complete clearance of psoriasis plaques.

The first figure below shows the composition of natural sunlight and the optimal response wavelength for psoriasis treatment 

(blue line),  The second figure shows how the output spectrum of Philips narrowband UVB tubes matches the optimal response 

wavelength.
